Challenge
With the retirement of the incumbent CFO of over 15 years, our client in the financial services industry was looking to hire a new CFO to continue the legacy of growth, modernization, diligence, and integrity established by the retiring CFO. The organization had also launched an enterprise-wide modernization and transformation initiative to streamline business operations for more efficient and cost-effective service expansion.
Approach
Consultations with Options’ team and key board members helped establish a baseline of competencies required for the CFO role. These included strong financial acumen, particularly in organizational restructuring and transformation, deep knowledge of working with federal and provincial financial regulators, and specific expertise in IT modernization and cybersecurity. Additionally, future succession planning was a key consideration, seeking candidates with wide executive leadership competencies, who could potentially be considered for the CEO position within the next five years.
Within 3 months, viable candidates were identified through a combination of job postings and headhunting, with two candidates shortlisted.
Outcome
The client was highly satisfied with the two shortlisted candidates, both of whom could have filled the position. The selected candidate accepted the offer and was smoothly onboarded within two weeks of signing.
